I have just bought a pair of Portas last week and I have to say, they really bang for the buck! I’ve been using it ever since. In short, this is how I see these amazing headphones:
Pros: Comfort, very great sound quality, aesthetics (well, the design hasn’t remained the same since 1984 anyway). They use KSC35 drivers, instead of black, we have blue.
Cons: Well, I myself find the design pretty cool, but in general, they seem to be ugly and dorky in comparison with the Beats, Bose crowd, Soul or Skullcandy. And the style are not very fashionable at this time anymore. Plus, I have trouble adjusting the headphones, when I do that my hair may get stuck. A bit uncomfortable anyway.
Well, if you need the best studio headphones 2016, it may help you.
To be more specific, I will get into details.
On the comfort aspect, the Portas are more comfortable than my V150s or UR40s. If you can’t imagine that, try this: they weigh only 0.125 pounds, which means 2 ounces, which also means almost nothing. It does have any clamping forces that make you feel uncomfortable. No matter how long you wear it, you will barely feel pain. Especially when you work in music and have to use the headsets all the time, don’t forget to give the Portas a chance, guys.
The look seems to play an important part in making decision. I myself am really into the vintage style, so I have nothing to complain about the design. But I know people may prefer the Beats’ style to these. Still, I appreciate the design and the durability of this product.
About the sound quality, you can be sure that listening to the Koss PortaPro makes you feel extremely relaxed because you will hear the sounds that are laidback. You are able to carefully hear the bass and this can cause a problem for the mid tones, since they may get overpowered by the bass sounds but when it comes to high tones, you can absolutely hear them well. This is the best part to me, the Portas have very much bass but still, they allow plenty of mids and highs to be heard. Overall the sounds are so sweet that both the Bass Freqs and the V150s can’t be compared to. The UR40s? These two seem to be pretty equal.
Best uses, I must say, are all-purpose, since you know, the great-sounding set of open back headphones in the $50 price range? It’s dope! They work perfectly well on Mp3 players, laptop, PC, stereo and in the STUDIOS! They even get along well with any genres.
Who should purchase the Portas? I wanna say everyone but anyway, not everyone loves the design *as I said*. But seriously, they cost only $42 on Amazon right now, and they are good-looking and efficient . What are you waiting for? So again, the Portas are definitely in the list of those who choose efficiency over look.
